Careers Beyond Cancer

In helping people with their careers upon diagnosis of cancer and beyond, organisations around the world use a variety of structures, modes of delivery and approaches. Although different, they share a common purpose of wanting to smooth the way for the cancer patient / survivor, whether that be through direct career help, provision of resources or psycho-social services. The learnings from this Fellowship can be applied to assist with developing resources and support for people with cancer in Australia, through four key areas:

  1. Advocacy - linking and partnering with charities, building the profession, and promoting the value of services to medical professionals and patient support groups.
  2. Relationships - developing partnerships with potential referral partners, with nonprofits/charities, global links and exploring multidisciplinary discussion and collaboration.
  3. Development / Services - considering hybrid model of services, harnessing technology, developing resources, with a focus on career change and life-work reinvention.
  4. Sustainability - Securing sustainable means of updating resources, considering a stepped social enterprise approach for funding levels.
